  • Art

A master sculptor, Frances has exhibited and taught painting, drawing and sculpture across Canada.  One of her specialties is portraiture, and she has been commissioned for these in pastel, oil, stone, clay and bronze. Her principal medium is stone, and her works exhibit power and strength.  Much of her sculpture is glyptic, directly carved to free the image inside.  Often rough stone remains.  Other works are modelled to exploit natural tones and texture or to allow casting.

Frances moved to the Okanagan Valley from Ottawa, where she was the President and a Program Director of the National Capital Network of Sculptors, being instrumental in their participation in the Canadian Tulip Festival.   After moving to Kelowna, she was a member of the Kelowna Committee for the Okanagan-Thompson International Sculpture Symposium in 2002 and organized the participation of community-based non-commissioned sculptors.  She was a founding member and is a Life Member of the Kelowna Sculptors Network Society.  She directed the summer-long Kelowna centennial public sculpture project 'Connecting Links' in 2005.  That same year she was commissioned to do a marble sculpture presented to the Canada Pavilion, Expo 2005, in Aichi, Japan, and now in the municipal collection of Kasugai, Japan, as Canada's commemorative gift to that city.   She participated in the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan's Open Door Studio tours in 2006, 2007and 2008.  Frances started work on a life size Limestone sculpture, 'Coming Home', for the 100 Anniversary of The British Columbia Dragoons, in 2007.  This was completed in late 2010.  A limited edition of 50 bronze maquette's were also completed in 2011.  The Limestone sculpture was unveiled on May 14 th at the Kelowna Air Port.

Frances Bezeau moved to Fredericton, N B, in late 2010, where she continues her work.

Frances Keifer Bezeau is intrigued by the human form, its many moods, and the projection of individual personality.  Her favourite medium is marble.  While she continues her work, she now finds the most important and satisfying part of her career to be passing on her knowledge as a master sculptor by mentoring others; demonstrating techniques; and encouraging public awareness of the power, value and beauty of sculpture in our lives.
